Dr. John Shea died on Feb 8, 2015, at the age of 90. He was a prominent figure in Otology who practiced at the Shea clinic in Memphis Tennessee.

Dr. Shea designed a prosthetic stapes (a small bone in the middle ear), and in May 1956, he performed the first stapedectomy in a woman with otosclerosis. In 1964, Dr. Shea married Linda Mead, who was Miss America in 1960.

It is apparent that Dr. Shea was a very capable ear surgeon. Searching Pubmed for publications about otology with an author of Shea, J.J. results in the following published papers.
