Chicago Dizziness and Hearing

Providers and Staff

Usually patients seen in our practice interact with one or more physicians, several staff members, one or more technicians that perform diagnostic testing, and often a physical therapist who assists in getting them back into better "balance". The purpose of this page is to provide the information needed for patients to contact the people they need to in our practice.

Physical Therapy:

(Vestibular Rehabilitation)

Nicole Steinberg, DPT, practices vestibular physical therapy both for Chicago Dizziness and Hearing (all day on Friday) and also for Peak Therapeutics, another vestibular rehabilitation practice in Chicago. The "DPT" degree stands for doctor of physical therapy. It is an allied health degree.

Bridget Tarrant, PT, practices vestibular physical therapy on Wednesday.

Janet Helminski, Ph.D, P.T. is a research vestibular physical therapist at Chicago Dizziness and Hearing. She is has been a vestibular physical therapist since 1988, and she often gives courses on vestibular rehabilitation. Janet is also an associate professor at Midwestern University, a PT school in a suburb of Chicago (Downers Grove), where she teaches neuroscience.

Audrey has an "Au.D." degree - -or in other words, she is a doctor of audiology. The "Au.D." degree is not a "medical doctor" degree, but is an allied health degree. Audrey has a special interest in vestibular testing. She is often seen with several students "in tow" in our practice, as we do a much higher volume of this than other practices in the city.

Jeanne Perkins, MA, has had more than 25 years of experience as a clinical audiologist, mainly at the University of Chicago, where she was the directory of the audiology program for more than a decade.

Jeanne has a special interest in tinnitus. She has undergone the Neuromonics training, and can demonstrate tinnitus masking devices, CD's from the American Tinnitus Association as well as other places, and coordinate tinnitus care using our practice's tinnitus algorithm.

Medicolegal support:

Legal: Bruce

email -- legal@dizziness-and-balance.com

In our practice, there are frequently situations where people become dizzy after an injury (such as an auto accident), and this results in a legal action after several years. Dr. Hain also sometimes is asked to provide expert testimony about certain dizzy conditions. Occasionally we also involve senior people in our practice (we have very competant and experienced people working with us in both physical therapy and audiology).

We have a part-time paralegal to help with coordinating legal activities (Bruce). Bruce will assist in getting records reviewed and organized, scheduling IME's, depositions or trial dates.
